6 Everyday Uses for Tea Tree Oil

If you don’t have tea tree oil in your medicine cabinet and kitchen cupboards, we’re going to give you several good reasons to stock up. This essential oil is known for its anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic qualities, and can be used to heal a variety of common ailments.

Treat Cuts and Burns

The oil has antiseptic properties mean it can help fight infections. Apply a few drops of oil to a cotton pad and dab onto the wound.

Relieve Skin Inflammation

Skin inflammations such as rashes, eczema and psoriasis respond well to tea tree oil. Mix a few drops with coconut oil and apply to clean skin.

Soothe Chicken Pox

To help relieve the itching caused by chicken pox, add tea tree oil to your bath water and soak for 30 minutes. You can also apply oil to affected areas with a cotton ball.

Fight Dandruff

Add 10 drops of oil to an 8-ounce bottle of natural shampoo to combat flakes and dandruff. Some studies suggest it’s also useful in killing lice.

Heal Acne

One study found that tea tree oil can be just as effective as conventional acne treatments, like benzoyl peroxide, without the common side effects like irritation and dry skin. Dab a drop onto breakouts once a day.

Eliminate Toe Nail Fungus

Tea tree oil is great for common foot problems, including toe nail fungus and athlete’s foot. Put a few drops of the oil on the affected area using a clean cotton swab once or twice a day.
