A Guide to Hosting Guests this Holiday Season

household items

In the midst of holiday season, you’ll likely find yourself traveling to see family and friends or welcoming guests into your own home. This can be pretty stressful time, especially if you’re new to hosting or aren’t quite sure how to satisfy your guests.

Whether you’re spending the holidays on the road or with a house full of relatives, this quick guide to hosting offers a quick refresher on the art of hospitality.

Think Comfort

If you’re hosting friends and family, keep in mind that little touches can make your home comfortable for guests. Start with a deep clean, and then make sure there are fresh linens on the bed, a stack of clean towels and washcloths at the ready and basic toiletries on hand. Also, clearing space for their belongings in the bedroom and bathroom can prevent the room from feeling cluttered.

Do Something Fun

If you’re stressed about having company this holiday season, plan a fun activity with your family and friends. If your guest list includes kids, this step is a must! Consider taking them to some fun spots in town or even set up some games at home.

Also, your visitors may retire and rise on a different schedule than your family, so give them something to do in their room. Put out books and magazines, or print a TV guide to help them find their favorite shows.

Honor Traditions

Invite your guest to prepare or share a recipe from one of their family dishes so they feel at home and enjoy their own holiday traditions. To help make sure everyone is included, honor special dietary needs as well. Having their favorites on hand, like flavored coffee creamer or gluten-free bread, is a small gesture that goes a long way.

Whether you’re a holiday pro or hosting your first get-together, these tips will help you make it through with wonderful memories to last a generation. Let us know your holiday hosting tips in the comments!
